Consumer Electronics & Everyday Products

Industrial Designer & Product Development Partner

I work with founders and product companies to develop consumer electronics and everyday products. I help connect how a product looks, how it works, what it costs, and how it gets made.

What Clients Say

We knew from our first conversation that we were in good hands. The quality of Ferhat's work exceeded our expectations.

Nick

Ferhat really took the time to understand what we wanted. He came back with ideas that made the product even better.

Samantha

Ferhat quickly understood what we were trying to achieve and helped us make confident design decisions without compromising the original vision.

Renée

Ferhat didn't just deliver the design. He helped us understand the materials, sourcing, and costs before moving forward. Whenever a challenge came up, he always had a practical solution.

Omer

Better products come from better product decisions.

A product decision rarely affects only one thing. A change in material can affect appearance, wireless performance, construction and cost.

I work through those connections with you, weighing what matters for the user and the business.

In Elara, one ring became part of the connection between the speaker and rear housing while also providing a larger surface for interaction. The visual idea started doing functional work.

Services

Industrial design and product development services.

These are connected areas of one practice. I can help at a particular stage or stay involved as a product moves from concept through development and manufacturing.

Product Advisory

When an important product decision is unclear, I help assess options, question assumptions, and identify risks before the next investment.

Product Concept Development

Turn an early idea into a clear product direction through concept exploration, form development, and design refinement.

Industrial Design

Develop modern consumer products that balance aesthetics, usability, engineering, and manufacturing.

Consumer Electronics Design

Develop the physical design of consumer electronics and connected devices, balancing enclosures, components, controls, and the way people use them.

Product Development

Lead connected stages of development, from design and CAD through prototypes, engineering collaboration, supplier feedback, and production decisions.

Manufacturing Support

Work with manufacturers on design for manufacturing, samples, supplier feedback, and production planning, with continued coordination as the product moves forward.

About Ferhat

Work directly with me throughout the project.

I’m Ferhat Olçum, an independent industrial designer and product-development partner. I have more than 16 years of experience across design disciplines, with a focus on industrial and product design since 2015.

My background in architecture and interior design shapes how I think about products. I look at form, user experience, engineering and manufacturing as connected parts of the same design.

Based in Istanbul, I work primarily with U.S. founders and product companies, as well as international clients developing products for the U.S. market. I coordinate with engineers and manufacturing partners in China as projects develop.

Process

From the first idea to manufacturing follow-through.

01

Discover

Understand the product, the people using it, the business goals and the constraints.

02

Design

Explore directions through sketches, form studies, materials, finishes and interaction.

03

Develop

Refine the design in CAD, work through the details, and prepare for prototyping with engineers where needed.

04

Manufacture

Work through supplier feedback, samples and production details as the product moves forward.
